I believe storytelling is an evolved, essential, and sacred human practice. In this belief I feel fortunate to have gained experience and insight into the world of independent and mainstream media at a young age, although, there was always an echo that there was something else to it.
My earliest years were infused with Maori culture and custom, and great, proud speakers. This reverence and respect inspired a curiosity that informs so much of, if not all I do ~ encouraging a deeper journey into the ancestral through-lines that bring our collective story to life.
I began to travel, live abroad, and explore curiosities and shiny objects that captured my attention. Here, the true grace came in experiencing more of the many traditions of how and why tales are told. Reminding me of the way in which story, and the need for support through lived and learned wisdom, patience, and compassion existed in my somewhat bumpy formative years. I was reminded that what we share and how we hold each other in the sacred space of story has infinite potential to be life-changing, and lifesaving.
All so far has led to a larger emphasis on storytelling as medicine, which is a journey to forever be continued...
